The onlyhuman film company was founded by Josh Izenberg as a way to integrate his passion for documentary film with the non-fiction projects he directs and produces for clients. Based in Oakland, California, Josh partners with a network of talented Bay Area cinematographers, editors, writers, and producers to create films for online and broadcast distribution, as well as cinematic content for commercial and non-profit clients.
Josh's background in storytelling originated with his degree in Screenwriting from the University of Michigan, where he won the prestigious Hopwood, UTA, and Leonard and Eileen Newman awards for his screenplays. His first documentary, SLOMO, won over a dozen awards internationally, including Best Short Documentary at SXSW, Sheffield Doc/Fest, and the International Documentary Association Awards. The film was shortlisted for an Academy Award, screened all over the world, from Israel to Russia to Brazil to Iran, and ultimately premiered publicly as part of the New York Times Op-Docs series and became a Vimeo Staff Pick of the Year.
Currently, onlyhuman is in post-production on multiple documentary projects, covering topics from drug addiction in Peru to surf-therapy for combat vets. Commercial projects have included industrials for Nokia, 3DSystems, and Evernote, as well as longer form non-fiction content for MeSimple and Education Elements.
onlyhuman has produced shoots in various environments, from office to ocean to mountains, and for projects of all sizes, from one-man crew to thirty-person teams.
In addition to his documentaries, Josh writes and produces narrative films and fiction-based commercial work with filmmaker Brett Marty as part of Speculative Films, LLC.
